WHERE WE ARE COMING FROM

Aspen Supply Company was formed in 1987 to acquire the assets of a hardware and supply business in Aspen, Colorado that had been in continuous operation since 1892. That business had survived by adapting to changes in the business environment, starting life as a furniture store as an adjunct to a funeral home, morphing in time to a lumber yard and then a specialty hardware  store when it was acquired in 1987.

Aspen Supply carries on this tradition of adapting to changes in the world in which it operated, developing into a specialist retailer, before moving into importing and marketing specialty products, ultimately moving to focus on specialty food and wine and the synergies in fine food, wine and coffee.

Over its 25 year history, Aspen Supply is proud of of its record of job creation, having hired and developed a long list of associates who have built rewarding careers in specialty wholesale and retail.

Aspen Supply has continued a path of innovation and new concept development. Aspen Supply has been at the cutting edge of new concepts in specialty food importing, wine importing and distribution, and more recently, retailing of food, wine and coffee.

As a result of the current economic climate worldwide, Aspen Supply is now building on its concept development expertise, moving its focus to implementation and development of a new specialty retail and food business that is built on the synergy that we strongly believe exists between food, wine and coffee.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Aspen Supply has recently accepted managerial responsibility for a concept store located in Aspen, Colorado, with the assignment that it develop and refine the systems that will enable it to successfully operate as a multi-unit operation in major population centers. Our focus is Chicago west to California.  Aspen Supply is currently responsible for a workforce of 10-15 employees. With the planned expansion, this is expected to grow significantly.

Aspen Supply originally developed the concepts on which the operation is based, and will now take on a full management ond concept development role for the international private equity investors who are backing the concept.

Part of the motivation for the expansion is a close relationship with an Australian specialty coffee roaster that is in the process of opening a roasting plant in New York. This fills one of the missing elements in the total concept – a source for international quality coffee beans. This element, when combined with Aspen Supply’s other supply relationships gives us a solid basis for building a chain of unique specialty retail and cafés for the investment group.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU NEED?

In order to fulfill its contract, Aspen Supply is building a team with a diverse background in food retailing, wine,  coffee, café operations and specialty & fashion retail. International experience in these areas is very much preferred, given the distinctive nature of what is being created.

Team members will be initially retained on a contract for up to 24 months, which will run through the initial implementation period. Renewal of contracts after that time, as the company moves into the next phase, will be by negotiation and mutual agreement. All positions during this initial period are based in Aspen, Colorado.
